How to manually uninstall Norton Utilities for Macintosh 7.0

The uninstaller for Norton Utilities for Macintosh 7.x removes all of the program files that are specific to Norton Utilities. However, some Symantec shared components are not removed by the uninstaller. To remove Symantec shared components, read How to manually uninstall LiveUpdate and Norton Scheduler in Mac OS X.

STEP 2
  Reboot the computer

To manually remove Norton Utilities for Macintosh 7.x, first boot from your Norton Utilities CD, the System Software CD, or a separate volume.

NOTE Note

 Rather than booting from a CD or another volume, you can log on to your computer with root access.

STEP 3
  Uninstall Norton Utilities for Macintosh 7.0

Double-click the drive on which Norton Utilities is installed.

Double-click Applications, and then remove the Norton Utilities (alias) file.

Double-click Norton Solutions, and then remove the Norton Utilities folder.

Double-click Read Me Files, and then remove the Norton Utilities Read Me file.

Close the Read Me Files, Norton Solutions, and Applications windows.

Double-click Library > Application Support > Norton Solutions Support, and then remove the Norton Utilities folder.

Double-click the folder Norton Application Aliases, and remove the following files: 
 
  • Norton Utilities (alias)
  • Norton Disk Doctor (alias)
  • Norton FileSaver (alias)
  • Speed Disk (alias) (if Norton Utilities 7.0.1 or later is installed)
  • Unerase (alias)

Close the Norton Applications Aliases, Norton Solutions Support, and Application Support windows.

Double-click the CFMSupport folder, and then remove the Norton Shared Lib file.

Close the CFMSupport window.

Double-click Documentation > Help, and then remove the Norton Utilities Help folder.

Double-click Norton Help Scripts and remove the following files: 
 
  • NDDlauncher
  • FSlauncher
  • NDElauncher
  • UElauncher
  • SDlauncher (if Norton Utilities 7.0.1 or later is installed)
  • Elauncher (if Norton Utilities 7.0.1 or later is installed)
  • SDPNUMlauncher

Close the Norton Help Scripts, Help, and Documentation windows.

Double-click Preferences, and remove the Norton Utilities Preferences folder.

Close the Preferences window.

Double-click StartupItems, and remove the following folders: 
 
  • NortonMissedTasks
  • NUMCompatibilityCheck
  • TrackDelete
  • VolumeAssist

Close the StartupItems and Library windows.

Double-click System (the folder named "System", not the folder named "System Folder") > Library > Extensions, and then remove the following files: 
 
  • DeleteTrap
  • symfs
  • SymOSXKernelUtilities.kext
  • SymDC.kext (if Norton Utilities 7.0.1 or later is installed)

Close all windows, and then empty the trash.
 Norton Utilities is now completely removed. Shared components of Norton software are still on your computer.
