Situation:
You are trying to use LiveUpdate to obtain program updates for your installed Symantec software. When you connect to the LiveUpdate server, you are prompted to insert the Norton Utilities for Macintosh CD, Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh CD or Norton SystemWorks for Macintosh CD. This prevents you from easily setting up timed events for LiveUpdate.
OR
You have just installed a new version of Symantec software. Upon restart, you are prompted for the installation CD for the product you have just installed.
Solution:
At some point, Norton Utilities or Norton AntiVirus was run from a CD while booted from your hard drive, and an alias for the specific application or module that was run was created in the Norton Application Aliases folder. When you launch LiveUpdate, it scans this folder first to see where applications are located that need to be updated. As a result, if it sees an application's alias from a Symantec program run from a CD, it asks you to insert that CD so that it can update that program.
To solve this problem, throw away the Norton Application Aliases folder that is located in the Preferences folder in the System Folder on your hard drive. The next time you run a Symantec program, the Norton Application Aliases folder will be recreated with the appropriate aliases. After throwing away the Norton Application Aliases folder, launch LiveUpdate or restart, and you will no longer be prompted to insert the CD.
