Error: "Attention: Access Denied, Drive C" after installing Norton SystemWorks

 

NOTE Note The information about Windows permissions is provided for your convenience. If you have questions about how to configure permissions that are not answered here, refer to your Microsoft Windows documentation.

STEP 1
  Find your version of Windows XP

Click Start > Run.

In the Run dialog box, type the following text:

winver

Note whether you have Windows XP Professional Edition or Windows XP Home Edition.

Click OK.

STEP 2
  Configure permissions

In most cases this problem occurs because the Windows XP file permissions are not configured correctly for the NTFS file system. You must configure Administrator and System permissions to allow all actions.

Expand the section for your version of Windows XP:

I use Windows XP Professional Edition

Click Start > My Computer.

On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.

On the View tab, in the Advanced settings box, scroll to the bottom of the list and uncheck Use simple file sharing (Recommended).

Click OK.

Right-click the icon for drive C, and then click Properties.

On the Security tab, in the Name box, click Administrator.

In the Permissions list, check Allow for all items in the list.

In the Name box, click System.
9
In the Permissions list, check Allow for all items in the list.

Click OK.

Restart the computer.

Go to STEP 3, "Disable and reenable the Norton Protected Recycle Bin."

I use Windows XP Home Edition

Restart the computer in Safe mode.
For instructions, read Starting your computer in Safe mode.

Click Start > My Computer.

Right-click the icon for drive C, and then click Properties.

On the Security tab, in the Name box, click Administrator.

In the Permissions list, check Allow for all items in the list.

In the Name box, click System.
7
In the Permissions list, check Allow for all items in the list.

Click OK.
9
Restart the computer.

Go to STEP 3, "Disable and reenable the Norton Protected Recycle Bin."

  Disable and reenable the Norton Protected Recycle Bin

On the desktop, right-click the Norton Protected Recycle Bin icon.

Click Properties.

On the Norton Protection tab, uncheck Enable Protection.

Click OK.

Restart the computer.

On the desktop, right-click the Norton Protected Recycle Bin icon.
7
Click Properties.
8
On the Norton Protection tab, check Enable Protection.
9
Click OK.
10
Restart the computer.
