  •  To block a string on all Web sites, click (Defaults), and then go on to line 6.
  •  To block a string on a Web site that is in the list, select the name of the site, and then go on to line 6.
  •  To block a string on a Web site that is not in the list, click Add Site, and then go to line 5.
5
After clicking Add Site, type the address of the site in the New Site/Domain dialog box.
6
Click OK.
8
On the Ad Blocking tab, click Add.
9
In the Add New HTML String dialog box, select one of the following two actions:

  •  Block: Block ads matching this string.
  •  Permit: Allow ads matching this string.
10
Type an HTML string to block or permit.
The HTML string to type in the "Add new HTML string" dialog box is usually a part of the URL for the Web page that you want to view. If you do not know which part of the URL to use as the HTML string, use all of the URL that is after the domain name, except for the ending slash mark (/). For example, For the following URL:

http://www.symantec.com/sabu/sysworks/pro/
the site or domain name is

www.symantec.com
and the HTML string is

/sabu/sysworks/pro
11
Click OK until you return to the main program window.

Technical Information:
This problem happens when either the address (URL) for the Web page or the Web page programming (HTML) includes some text that indicates the page may be an advertisement or include an advertisement. The text is called an HTML string. When Ad Blocking detects one of these HTML strings, it prevents all or part of the Web page from being displayed.

Ad Blocking maintains a list of more than 200 HTML strings that are associated with advertisements.
