Using Automatic Program Control to configure firewall rules for Web-enabled programs

Automatic Program Control automatically configures Internet access settings for Web-enabled programs the first time that they run. When Automatic Program Control detects a program that attempts to access the Internet, it searches its list for a predefined set of rules. You are notified when a rule is automatically created, which gives you the option to create your own rules for the program.

Turn Automatic Program Control on or off
1
Start Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
2
Click Personal Firewall.
3
Click Configure.
4
On the Programs tab, in the "Settings for" drop-down list, select the Network Location that you want to modify.
The current Network Location is selected by default.
5
Do one of the following:

  • To turn on Automatic Program Control, check Turn on Automatic Program Control.
  • To turn off Automatic Program Control, uncheck Turn on Automatic Program Control.
6
Click OK.
