Responding to Settings Alerts
- A Settings Alert dialog box indicates that the Norton Internet Security, Norton Personal Firewall, or Norton AntiVirus 2003 registry keys have been changed.
- Hackers sometimes use registry entries to make unwanted changes to your computer. Because this is a typical way that hackers attempt to bypass your security programs, Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall do not allow these changes to remain. If you do not immediately click OK at the alert window (which restarts the computer), a hacker might make changes to your security programs that prevent those programs from protecting your computer.

How to respond to Settings alerts |
|
|
- At the alert window, click OK. Another dialog box appears and informs you that the computer must be restarted. When you click OK, the computer restarts and the registry settings are automatically replaced with the previous registry settings. No further action is necessary.
- In some cases, you will see a link in the Security alert, "Click here to go to Symantec Technical Support Knowledge Base..." If you continue to repeatedly see the same alert after rebooting your computer, click the link and a Symantec Technical Support document will be displayed in your browser. This document provides you with instructions on how to resolve the specific issue that caused the registry to be changed.
