Cannot connect to the Internet if Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall is turned on: Solution 2

Start Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall, and then expand the section that best describes what you see.

 

"Parental Control" is listed on the right

STEP 1
  Log on with a Norton Internet Security Supervisor account

Start Norton Internet Security.

In the Norton Internet Security window, in the left pane, click User Accounts.

The account that you are logged on as is displayed after "You are logged on as:" 
  • If you are logged on as Supervisor,  go to "Remove the program rules and run a program scan."
  • If you are not logged on as Supervisor, go to line 4 of this STEP.

Click Log Off.

In the Confirm dialog box, click Yes.

Click Log On.

In the Log on dialog box, in the Account Name list, click Supervisor.

In the Password field, type your password.
If you have never assigned a password to the Supervisor account, leave this field blank.

Click OK.

You should see the following text: "You are logged on as: Supervisor."
STEP 2
  Remove the program rules and run a program scan

In the left pane, click Status & Settings.

Click Personal Firewall.

Click Configure.

Click the Programs tab.

To select all of the rules on the Programs tab, click one rule and press Ctrl+A on the keyboard. 
If the Manual Program Control list is empty, click Program Scan and skip to line 9 of this STEP.

Click Remove.

Answer Yes to each of the two dialog boxes as they appear.

After the program rules are removed, click Program Scan.

In the Program Scan dialog box, check the box next to each of the hard drives and partitions that are listed. Click Next.

The scan progress is shown. The scan may take up to 10 minutes to complete.

After the Program Scan finishes, click Check All.

Click Next.

In the final Program Scan window, click Finish.

Click OK.
