Enabling or disabling Ad Blocking and Pop-up Window Blocking with Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall 2003

 

Norton Internet Security 2003 and Norton Personal Firewall 2003 use Ad Blocking to speed up your Web surfing capability by eliminating banner ads and other slow-loading or intrusive content. Ad Blocking also blocks ads made with Macromedia Flash and prevents sites from opening pop-up ad windows or pop-under ad windows. Ad Blocking can be configured for each user on your computer. 

 

NOTE Note Before you begin: If you use the 2004 or later versions of Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiSpam, or Norton Personal Firewall, read Enabling or disabling Ad Blocking and Pop-up Window Blocking instead of this one.

 

STEP 1

STEP 2
   Turn on or turn off Ad Blocking

Start Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.

Click Status & Settings.

Double-click Ad Blocking.

If you use Norton Internet Security, then on the "Ad Blocking Settings for" menu, select the user whose settings you need to change.

Do one of the following:
 
  • To turn on Ad Blocking, check Turn on Ad Blocking.
  • To turn off Ad Blocking, uncheck Turn on Ad Blocking.

Do one of the following:
 
  • To turn on Pop-up Window Blocking, check Turn on Pop-up Window Blocking.
  • To turn off Pop-up Window Blocking, uncheck Turn on Pop-up Window Blocking.

Click OK.

STEP 3
   Clear the cache in Internet Explorer

Start Internet Explorer.

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

Click Delete Cookies.

When you are asked to "Delete all cookies in the Temporary Internet File folder?," click OK.

Click Clear History.

When you are asked "Are you sure you want Windows to delete your history of visited Web sites?," click Yes.

Click OK.
