Situation:
After installing Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall, AOL Instant Messenger fails to connect to the AOL servers during the Windows startup sequence, or AOL Instant Messenger closes on its own.
Solution:
This problem was fixed by the latest Norton Internet Security program update. To install the update, start Norton Internet Security, run LiveUpdate, download all available updates, and then restart the computer when prompted. Repeat this procedure until no new updates are available.
