Auto-Protect displays "Off" and Email Scanning displays "Error"

STEP 2
  Automatically reset the file to start when you start Windows

Run a tool to automatically reset the startup file. RUN IT NOW

If the problem is not fixed, go to STEP 3.

STEP 3
  Disable and re-enable Auto-Protect

Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start that program.

Click Options.
If you see a menu, then click Norton AntiVirus.

Under System, click Auto-Protect.

Under How to stay protected, uncheck Start Auto-Protect when Windows starts up (recommended).

Click OK.

Restart the computer.

Repeat this entire step (STEP 3), except in line 5 check Start Auto-Protect when Windows starts up (recommended).
 If the problem is not fixed, then go to STEP 4.

STEP 4
  Run LiveUpdate and run a full system scan

Run a tool to download the latest updates and virus definitions. RUN IT NOW
2
Run a full system scan on your computer.
