Error: "Norton AntiVirus was unable to scan your Instant Messenger . . . " (3021,4) after installing Norton AntiVirus

STEP 2
  Turn off Norton AntiVirus Instant Messenger scanning

If the (3021,4) error message keeps you from seeing the Norton AntiVirus interface, then drag the message out of the way.

Start Norton AntiVirus.
 If Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start that program.

On the program interface, click Options.
 If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.

On the left side of the Norton AntiVirus Options screen, click Instant Messenger.

Under "What instant messengers to protect," uncheck all of the items, and then click OK.

Restart the computer. Go to the next section.
STEP 3
  To update to the latest version of MSN Messenger

Go to MSN.com, and follow the instructions to download and install the latest version of MSN Messenger.

Restart the computer.
 Norton AntiVirus Instant Messenger scanning should be configured automatically. If it is not, go to STEP 4 to manually configure the latest version of MSN Messenger to work with Norton AntiVirus Instant Messenger scanning.
STEP 4
  Turn on Norton AntiVirus Instant Messenger scanning

Start Norton AntiVirus.
 If Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start that program.

On the program interface, click Options.
 If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.

On the left side of the Norton AntiVirus Options screen, click Instant Messenger.

In "What instant messengers to protect," check MSN/Windows Messenger, and then click OK.
