Message: "Norton AntiVirus 2005 does not support the repair feature . . . " after installing the product

STEP 2
  Check that the Quarantine folder exists

If the error message appears, click OK to close it.

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.

Look for the Quarantine folder for your Norton program version: 
 
  • For Norton AntiVirus, look for C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine
  • For Norton Internet Security, look for C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine
  • For Norton SystemWorks, look for C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine

Do one of the following, depending on whether the folder exists or not:
 
  • If the Quarantine folder exists, skip to STEP 3.
  • If the Quarantine folder does not exist, then make sure that the Norton AntiVirus folder is open and continue with line 5

On the File menu, click New > Folder.

Type the following folder name:
Quarantine

Press Enter.

STEP 3
  Check that the Incoming and Portal folders exist

Open the Quarantine folder for your Norton program version: 
 
  • For Norton AntiVirus, open C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine
  • For Norton Internet Security, open C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine
  • For Norton SystemWorks, open C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine
You should see the two folders, Portal and Incoming, listed under the Quarantine folder.

Do one of the following, depending on whether the folders exist or not:
  • If the folders exist, skip to STEP 4.
  • If the folders do not exist, then continue with line 4.

On the File menu, click New > Folder.

Type the following folder name:
Incoming

Press Enter.

On the File menu, click New > Folder.

Type the following folder name:
Portal

Press Enter.

Exit Windows Explorer.

Restart the computer.

If the problem persists, go to STEP 4

STEP 4
  Uninstall and reinstall your Norton product
1
Click Start > Control Panel.

In the Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.

In the list of installed programs, click the Norton product that you want to uninstall, and then click Change or Remove.

Click Remove All to confirm that you want to uninstall the product.

If you have files in Norton Quarantine, click Yes to delete the quarantined files from your computer.

Click Next to confirm that you want to uninstall the product.

Click Restart Now.
Your Norton product is not fully uninstalled until you restart your computer.

Click Finish.

After the computer restarts, reinstall your Norton program.
