Uninstalling and reinstalling Norton AntiVirus 2005

STEP 1

STEP 2
  Enable necessary services on Windows startup
 
I am using Windows XP

On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.

In the Run dialog box, type the following and click OK:
 
msconfig

In the System Configuration Utility window, on the Startup tab, make sure that the following file is checked:
 
ccAPP

If ccApp is unchecked, then check it.
In some cases, you will not see ccApp listed in the System Configuration Utility
window at all. In this case, simply go to Step 3.

In the System Configuration Utility window, on the Services tab, make sure that all
of the following services are present and checked:
 Symantec Event Manager
Symantec Network Proxy
Symantec Password Validation
Symantec Settings Manager
ISSVC
Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Service
Symantec Network Drivers Service
Symantec Core LC

If any of the entries named here are unchecked, check them. In some cases, you
will not see one of the entries listed in the System Configuration Utility window at
all. In this case, simply go on to the next item.

Click Apply > OK.

Click Yes to reboot the computer.
I am using Windows Me/98

 On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.

In the Run dialog box, type the following and click OK:
 
msconfig

In the System Configuration Utility window, on the Startup tab, verify that the necessary files your version of Windows are checked.
If any of the entries named here are unchecked, check them. In some cases, you will not see one of the entries listed in the System Configuration Utility window at all. In this case, simply go on to the next item.
 
  • ccApp
  • Symantec Core LC
  • ccEvtMgr
  • ccSetMgr
  • ISSVC
  • ccProxy

Click Apply.

Click OK.

Click Yes to reboot the computer.
STEP 3
  Uninstall Norton AntiVirus 2005

On the Windows task bar, Click Start > Control Panel.

Click Add or Remove Programs.

Click Norton AntiVirus.

Click Remove.
If you do not see a Remove button, click Change.

Click Remove or Remove All.

Follow the instructions to uninstall the product.
Restart the computer when asked to do so.
STEP 4
  Reinstall your Norton products

Choose the statement that best describes your situation:

I have the product on a CD

Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.

Click Install Product Name, where Product Name is the name of your Norton product.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

I downloaded the product from the Symantec Store and still have the installation file

Find the product installation file. Unless you saved it elsewhere, it is on the Windows desktop.

Double-click the installation file.
 Wait for the installation wizard to appear—it may take a minute or two.

Click Install Product Name, where Product Name is the name of your Norton product.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

I downloaded the product from the Symantec Store and no longer have the installation file

Go to the Symantec Store Order Status Web page.

Type in your order number and password to log on, and you will see your order information.
If you do not know your order number and password, you can look up your order using your email address.

On your Order Summary, click Start Download.
NOTE Note
  • If you purchased your product more than 60 days ago, you can click Buy Now to buy the Extended Download Service and download the product again.
  • If you purchased your product more than a year ago, you cannot download your product anymore. You can buy a new version of your product at a discounted price by purchasing an upgrade. Go to our Upgrades and Renewals page, then choose your product and version to see your upgrade options.

The product came pre-installed on my computer

Reinstall your Norton product from the back-up CD that came with your computer.

If you do not have the back-up CD or are not sure how to use it, please contact your computer manufacturer for help.

I downloaded the product from my Internet service provider (ISP)

Find the product installation file.
If you no longer have the installation file, download it again from your ISP.

Double-click the installation file.
 Wait for the installation wizard to appear—it may take a minute or two.

Click Install Product Name, where Product Name is the name of your Norton product.

Follow the on-screen instructions.
