Error: "An encrypted mail connection has been detected . . ."

NOTE Note

If you have Norton Internet Security and you see this error, then go to the document Message: "An encrypted mail connection has been detected . . ." with Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiSpam installed.

 

This message happens when your Internet service provider (ISP) uses the Secured Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. Norton AntiVirus email scanning will not work with the SSL protocol. Disable Norton AntiVirus email scanning to stop the message from showing when sending email.

 

            
   Turn off Email scanning

Exit any email programs that are running, such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.

Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.

Click Options.
If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.

In the left pane, click Email.

In the right pane, uncheck Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email.

Click OK.

 If you use Norton AntiVirus 2006/2005, then in the Protection Alert dialog box, on the drop-down menu, click Permanently, and then click OK.

 Exit Norton AntiVirus.
