STEP 1		Fix most common connectivity issues with Norton products
		Run a tool to fix common Norton connectivity issues. RUN IT NOW

STEP 2		Get the latest updates for your computer
		1 Run a tool to download the latest updates and virus definitions. RUN IT NOW 2 If you still cannot send or receive email, then go to STEP 3.

STEP 3		Disable Norton AntiVirus email scanning
		1 Start Norton AntiVirus. 2 Click Options. 3 Click Email. 4 Uncheck Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email.  If you are asked to verify that your email program is not running, then click OK. 5 Click OK. Note For Norton AntiVirus 2005 only: In the Protection Alert dialog box, on the drop-down menu, click Permanently, and then click OK. 6 Click Options. 7 Click Auto-Protect. 8 Check Start Auto-Protect when Windows starts up (recommended). 9 Check Enable Auto-Protect (recommended). 10 Restart the computer.

Note

If the error message continues, then the problem is not caused by email scanning. It is most likely caused by a configuration problem with your email program, Internet connection settings, or another firewall. Contact your Internet service provider or Microsoft technical support for help configuring your email and Internet settings.
