Creating Norton AntiVirus Emergency Disks

If you do not have Norton AntiVirus installed or your file system is NTFS, then read the document Removing a virus from your computer when Norton AntiVirus is not yet installed.

  Create Emergency Disks using the Norton AntiVirus CD
 
NOTE Note You will need four blank 1.44-MB floppy disks to create the Emergency Disk set.

Insert the Norton AntiVirus CD in the CD-ROM drive.

On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.

Navigate to the following folder:
 
D:\Support\Edisk\
 If the CD-ROM drive has a letter other than D, then substitute the appropriate drive letter.

Double-click the NED.EXE file to start the Norton Emergency Disk program.

Click OK.

Label a blank floppy disk as indicated in the dialog box, and then insert it into the floppy disk drive.

Click Yes.
 The Norton Emergency Disk program will copy the necessary files to the floppy disk.

Remove the disk when the program prompts for the next one, and repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have created four disks. After all of the disks have been created, you will see a confirmation message.

Remove the last disk.

Click OK.

Write-protect all disks by moving the slider on the write-protection notch, so that the notch is fully open (the hole is visible).

STEP 1
  Download and install the Norton AntiVirus Emergency Disks files

Click on the button to download NED_2001.exe file. DOWNLOAD

When the file download dialog box appears, save the file to the desktop.

On the desktop, double-click the NED_2001.exe file that you downloaded.

In the Setup dialog box, in the Folder box, type the following text after C:\Program Files\
 
Emergency Disk

Click Install.

The folder will be created and the Emergency Disk files will be extracted into that folder.

Go to STEP 2.
 
STEP 2
  Create the Norton AntiVirus Emergency Disks

On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.

Go to the following folder:
 
C:\Program Files\Emergency Disk

Double-click Ned_2001.exe.

In the Welcome dialog box, click OK.

Label a blank floppy disk as indicated in the dialog box, and then insert it into the floppy disk drive.

Click Yes.

The Norton Emergency Disk program will copy the necessary files to the floppy disk.

Remove the disk when the program asks you for the next one, and repeat steps 5 and 6 until you have created four disks. After all of the disks have been created, you will see a confirmation message.
