How to exclude specific drives, folders, and files from being scanned

STEP 2
  Add an exclusion to Auto-Protect and the manual virus scan
I have a Norton 2008 product

Start your Norton program.

In the lower left corner of the window, click Options > Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiVirus.

In the left pane, click Exclusions.

Under Which disks, folders or files to exclude from risk scanning, click New.

Select the disk drive or folder or file you would like to exclude and click OK.
 If you want to include subfolders within the folder, check Include Subfolders.

Under Which disks, folders or files to exclude from Auto-Protect scanning, click New.

Select the disk drive or folder or file you would like to exclude and click OK.
 If you want to include subfolders within the folder, check Include Subfolders.

Click Apply > OK.
I have a Norton 2007 product

Start your Norton program.

In the main pane, click the Norton Product tab.
 Where Norton Product is the name of your Norton product.

Click Settings.

Under Basic Security, click Autoprotect and then click Configure.

In the left pane, under Advanced Options, click Scan Exclusions.

Under Which disks, folders or files to exclude from Risk scanning, click New.

Select the disk drive or folder or file you would like to exclude and click OK.
  If you want to exclude subfolders within the folder, check Include Subfolders.

Under Which disks, folders or files to exclude from Auto-Protect scanning, click New.

Select the disk drive or folder or file you would like to exclude and click OK.
  If you want to exclude subfolders within the folder, check Include Subfolders.

Click Apply and then click OK.
I have a Norton 2006/2005/2004 product

Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.

Click Options. If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.

On the left screen, click Auto-Protect > Exclusions.

On the right screen, click New.

Type the path to the file, folder, or drive that you want to exclude, or click the browse button and browse to and select the file, folder, or drive.
To exclude a folder, you must type the path and folder name in the Item box.

If you are running Windows 98/Me, then select the type of activity that you want to exclude by checking the appropriate box in the Exclude from section.

If you are running Windows 2000/XP, then you can exclude the file, folder, or drive from virus detection. You can also choose to only exclude the file, folder or drive from compressed file scanning.

On the left Options screen, click Manual Scan > Exclusions.

Repeat steps 4 through 7.

Click OK, and then close the Options for Norton AntiVirus window.
