Paging file size changes after installing Norton AntiVirus 2004

Situation:
You changed the Windows paging file size to be larger then the minimum size that Windows recommends. After you install Norton AntiVirus 2004, you find that the paging file size was reset to the minimum size that Windows recommends.

Solution:
To fix the problem, change the paging file size back to what you want, and then exclude it from Auto-Protect scans. Here is how to do this:

To exclude Pagefile.sys file from Auto-Protect scans

  1. Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start that product.
  2. Click Options.
If you see a menu, then click Norton AntiVirus.
  3. In the left pane, under System, click Auto-Protect > Exclusions.
  4. In the right pane, click New.
  5. Type the following:

    C:\pagefile.sys
  6. Click OK .
  7. Restart the computer.
