Error: "ASPIDOS.SYS installation failed" or other errors during startup with a Ghost CDR/RW boot floppy disk

Situation:
You started a computer with a Ghost boot floppy disk in order to save an image file directly to a CD-R or CD-RW drive. On startup, you see various error messages similar to the following:

ASPIDOS.SYS installation failed
Bad or missing ASPI8DOS.SYS
Error in config.sys line 5

Solution:
These messages are normal. Ghost attempts to load various drivers to determine whether the device that uses those drivers exists on the system. For instance, Ghost might load SCSI drivers to determine whether the system includes a SCSI CD-R or SCSI CD-RW drive. If the device is not found, the computer will display one or more messages that an installation failed, a driver failed to load, or a file is bad or missing.

To minimize the number of messages, make sure the startup files, Config.sys and Autoexec.bat, do not load CDR/RW drivers such as CDROM.sys, MSCDEX.exe, or ATAPI drivers. See the document Which boot disks to use when writing to CDR/RW drives.

To ensure that Ghost properly detected the CDR/RW, run Ghost to create and save an image file to the CDR/RW drive. At the destination drive window, called "File name to copy image to," click the down arrow at the "Look in" box. The CDR/RW drive should be listed, usually as:
@CDR-1

If the drive is not listed, it might not be on Ghost's compatibility list. See the document Ghost compatibility with CD-R and CD-RW drives.

If you encounter problems saving an image file directly to a CDR/RW drive, see the following documents:
How to save an image file directly to a CDR/RW disk
How to troubleshoot problems writing to CD-R and CD-RW drives
