Troubleshooting steps for WinFax PRO 10.x

Situation:
This document provides steps for several troubleshooting procedures. Use this document when you have been referred to it by a Symantec Technical Support representative or by another Symantec knowledge base document.

Solution:
Perform only the procedures that were recommended to you by the Symantec Technical Support representative or by another Symantec knowledge base document. Do the procedures in the order that they were referred to you.

Click the icon that is on the left of each section to either expand ( ) or collapse ( ) the section. If you cannot expand a section, then read the document Cannot expand sections in a Symantec Knowledge Base document.

Rebuilding the attachments database
The following procedure removes the old attachments database and tells you how to create a new attachments database. Use the procedure when attachments do not work correctly and you suspect file corruption.

To rebuild the attachments library
  1. Close the WinFax Message Manager and WinFax Controller.
  2. If you are running Windows NT, 2000, or XP, stop the WinFax service.
  3. Start Windows Explorer and find the Attach.db file in the WinFax installation folder or a subfolder of the WinFax installation folder.
  4. Rename Attach.db to Attach.old.
  5. Start the WinFax Message Manager.
  6. From the Go menu, click WinFax Attachments.
  7. In the Attachments dialog box, under Description, double-click New Attachment.
  8. In the New Attachment dialog box. click Select.
  9. In the Select Attachment dialog box, make sure that the Look In window indicates that you are in the DATA directory.
  10. Select an attachment file from the list, and then click Open. The attachment files are in the format: filename.FXS.
  11. In the New Attachment dialog box, type a description for that attachment, and then click OK. The attachment is now listed in the Attachments folder within WinFax PRO.
  12. Repeat steps 7-11 for each attachment file that you want to relink.
