Situation:
This document tells how to obtain and install the 10.04 update to WinFax PRO 10.03.

Solution:
The WinFax PRO 10.04 update enables you to use Fax Sharing between a Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) computer and other NT-based computers while keeping the new security settings that are introduced by SP2. ("NT-based computers" use the Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP operating system.) The update applies only to the English version of WinFax and not to other languages.

CAUTION:
Install the update only if you decide that the update is appropriate for your network. Symantec recommends that you apply the update only to Windows XP SP2 computers that run in a non-mixed network. For more information, read the "Determining whether to apply the 10.04 update" section in this document.

Before installing the 10.04 update, update your WinFax version to version 10.03. Install the 10.04 update only to WinFax 10.03, not to WinFax 10.02. To update WinFax from version 10.02 to version 10.03, contact Symantec Technical Support.

Overview of the install process
To install the 10.04 update, make sure that the Windows XP SP2 operating system is using the default SP2 security settings and add a new user account for which the password does not expire. Then obtain and run the 10.04 update file.

In the following sections, begin with "Determining whether to apply the 10.04 update." Do each part in the order listed. If you install the update before ensuring that the computer has the correct security settings and user account, Fax Sharing does not work and the security settings on the Windows XP SP2 computers may be other than what you intend.
