Creating a pre-patched installation of Symantec Client Security 3.1 or Symantec AntiVirus 10.1 that includes Maintenance Patch 1

Situation:You need to install Symantec Client Security 3.1.0.4000 client or Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.0.4000 client. You do not want to install Symantec Client Security 3.1.0.394 or Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.0.394 and then deploy Maintenance Patch 1.

Solution:
Before you begin: These directions are intended for a deployment of Symantec Client Security 3.1.0.4000 client or Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.0.4000 client. Do not use these directions to deploy Symantec Client Security server or Symantec AntiVirus server.

Do not use these directions if your clients already run Symantec Client Security 3.1.0.4000 or Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.0.4000. Instead, apply the patch.

Follow the directions for your product version.

To create a pre-patched installer for Symantec Client Security 3.1.0.4000
  1. Copy the Win32 folder from a Symantec Client Security 3.1.0 server, or from the SCS folder on the installation CD, to the desktop.
    The Technical Information section of this document shows how to find the Win32 folder.
  2. From the Win32 folder or the SCS folder, type the following text at a command line to create a new image:

    msiexec /a "Symantec Client Security.msi"

  3. Create a temporary folder named Prepatch.
  4. When you are prompted for a network location, use the path to the new Prepatch folder, and then click Install.
  5. Copy the .msp patch file to the desktop.
  6. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  7. In the Open box, type the following text:

    msiexec /a "<Path to Prepatch folder>\Symantec Client Security.msi" /p "<Path>:\<Patch filename>.msp"

  8. When you are prompted for a path, use the path to the Prepatch folder.
  9. From the Symantec Client Security 3.1.0 installation CD, copy the following files in the CD4:\SCS folder to the Prepatch folder:
    • 0x0409.ini
    • Instmsiw.exe
    • Lusetup.exe
    • Setup.exe
    • Setup.ini
  10. If you want to deploy Symantec Client Security for the first time to managed clients, copy the Grc.dat file from the parent server into the Prepatch folder.

To create a pre-patched installer for Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.0.4000
  1. Copy the Win32 folder from a Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.0 server, or from the SAV folder on the installation CD, to the desktop.
    The Technical Information section of this document shows how to find the Win32 folder.
  2. From the Win32 folder or the SAV folder, type the following text at a command line to create a new image:

    msiexec /a "Symantec AntiVirus.msi"

  3. Create a temporary folder named Prepatch.
  4. When you are prompted for a network location, use the path to the Prepatch folder, and then click Install.
  5. Copy the .msp patch file to the desktop.
  6. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  7. In the Open box, type the following text:

    msiexec /a "<path to Prepatch folder>\Symantec AntiVirus.msi" /p "<Path>:\<Patch filename>.msp"

  8. When you are prompted for a path, use the path to the Prepatch folder.
  9. From the Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.0 installation CD, copy the following files in the CD1:\SAV folder to the Prepatch folder:
    • 0x0409.ini
    • Instmsiw.exe
    • Lusetup.exe
    • Setup.exe
    • Setup.ini
  10. If you want to deploy Symantec AntiVirus for the first time to managed clients, copy the Grc.dat file from the parent server into the Prepatch folder.

To deploy a pre-patched version of Symantec Client Security 3.1.0.4000 or Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.0.4000
  1. Copy the Prepatch folder to the target client.
    You created this folder in step 3 in the previous section of this document.
  2. Open the folder, and then run the Setup.exe file.


Note: You cannot use a pre-patched installer with ClientRemote Install in Symantec System Center. Run the installation locally, or use a third-party tool to copy the deployment files and start the installation.




Technical Information
To find the Win32 folder on a Symantec Client Security server or a Symantec AntiVirus server
The default location on a Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition server is <OS drive>:\Program Files\SAV\CLT-INST\Win32.
The default location on a Symantec Client Security server is <OS drive>:\Program Files\SAV\Symantec AntiVirus\CLT-INST\Win32.
