Question/Issue:
You need to update your Symantec software against the vulnerability noted in Symantec Security Advisory SYM06-010. You want to know what steps you need to take for your version of Symantec Client Security or Symantec AntiVirus.

• What versions are affected by the vulnerability?
  For a detailed list of which versions are affected, read the advisory.
  All versions of Symantec AntiVirus 10.x earlier than those in the solutions column on the advisory page are vulnerable.
  
• What versions are not affected by the vulnerability?
  Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh 10.x, Symantec Client Security 2.x and earlier, Symantec AntiVirus 9.x and earlier, and consumer versions of Norton AntiVirus are not affected.
  
• Are the patches available through LiveUpdate?
  No. In order to allow greater version control within a network, Symantec Client Security and Symantec AntiVirus use LiveUpdate only to update virus definitions and IPS signatures. This means that patches and other software upgrades cannot be delivered through LiveUpdate for these products.
  
• How do I determine which version I have?
  To determine the product version, start Symantec AntiVirus. The version is in the right pane, under Program Versions.
  To find out whether your product version requires a license, read Determining whether Symantec Client Security 3.x or Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.x requires a license.
  
• Does the patch require a restart?
  The patch does require a restart on clients and servers. However, the restart does not have to be immediate. After the patch is installed, Auto-Protect still protects the computer, and the computer is protected against the vulnerability. The restart is required to update the product version information, and for the Windows Installer to perform cleanup functions. This means that you can install the patch to provide immediate protection, and users can restart their computers when it is convenient.
