Solution:

Before you begin:

This document is for those occasions when, due to an error or some other reason, you must uninstall NAVCE manually, rather than use Add/Remove Programs.

This document describes how to manually remove NAVCE from the following three places:
Remove NAVCE from the registry

WARNING: We strongly recommend that you back up the system registry before making any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Please make sure that you modify only the keys specified. See the document Backing up the Windows registry before proceeding.

With the registry backed up, you are now ready to edit the registry. You can navigate through the registry either with the mouse (by clicking the plus and minus signs), or with the arrow keys (up/down to move up and down, left/right to collapse/expand a branch).

To remove NAVCE from the registry:
Open the Registry Editor, and then navigate to the following registry keys:
NAVCE is now disabled. However, there will be traces of the program still in the registry. You must restart the computer for the registry changes to take effect.

Remove NAVCE from the Start menu

To remove NAVCE from the Start menu:
  1. Right-click the Start button, and then click Open.
  2. Double-click Programs.
  3. Right-click the Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition folder, and then click Delete.

Remove NAVCE from the hard drive

To remove NAVCE from the hard drive:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. Navigate to the Program Files folder.
  3. Right-click the Norton AntiVirus folder, and then click Delete.

WARNING: Delete the Symantec and Symantec Shared folders only if NAVCE is the only Symantec product installed on the computer.

  4. Right-click the Symantec folder and then click Delete.
  5. Navigate to the \Program Files\Common Files folder.
  6. Right-click the Symantec Shared folder, and then click Delete.
  7. Close Windows Explorer.
  8. (Optional) Run the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

Note: Running the Windows Installer CleanUp utility will remove additional settings that could interfere with a reinstallation of NAVCE.

Running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility

  1. Double-click the downloaded file to install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Installer Cleanup.
  3. The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility should appear on your screen with a list of programs that have been installed using the Windows Installer.
  4. Select Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition from the list, and then click Remove.
  5. Close the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
  6. You should be now able to proceed with a reinstallation of NAVCE normally.
