Clients lose network access after installing Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0

Question/Issue:
You install Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0. You find that the clients cannot access the network, and that they do not have valid IP addresses. The clients are unable to obtain IP addresses through DHCP.

Solution:
This can happen if the firewall policy for the group that contains the DHCP server blocks traffic to the server. To solve the problem, you must modify the firewall policy.

To modify the firewall policy

  1. In Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager, on the Policies page, under View Policies, click Firewall.
  2. Find the policy that is associated with the group that contains the DHCP server. Right-click this policy and click Edit.
  3. Click Rules > Add Blank Rule.
  4. In the Name column, give the rule a name such as "Allow DHCP server."
  5. In the Service column, right-click the new rule and select Edit.
  6. Check DHCP Server, and click OK.
  7. Move the new rule above any other rules that would otherwise block DHCP server traffic.
  8. Click OK to apply the policy.

The modified policy is applied when the instance of Symantec Endpoint Protection that is installed on the DHCP server checks in with Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
