Manually uninstalling Symantec AntiVirus 10.1/10.0 server and AMS from NetWare

Question/Issue:
This document describes how to remove Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.1/10.0 server and AMS from a NetWare server.


Solution:
You should first attempt to uninstall Symantec AntiVirus using the Automatic Uninstall method. If this method fails, or if you need to completely remove Symantec AntiVirus, then use the Manual Uninstall method.


Automatic uninstall
You can automatically uninstall Symantec AntiVirus using the VPSTART command.

To automatically uninstall Symantec AntiVirus

  1. Unload the Symantec AntiVirus NLMs by pressing Alt+F10 at the Symantec AntiVirus console
  2. Type the following at the console prompt:

    UNLOAD VPREG.NLM

  3. Type the following at the console prompt:

Manual uninstall
Removing Symantec AntiVirus server and AMS manually takes the following basic steps:
To unload Symantec AntiVirus
  1. Go to the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition screen on the NetWare server console.
  2. Press F10, and then select Yes.
  3. Type the password, and then press Enter.

To remove Symantec AntiVirus server and AMS from the NetWare volume
  1. Remove the Symantec AntiVirus load line from the Autoexec.ncf file, if necessary.
  2. Using NWAdmin or ConsoleOne, remove the following section of the logon script:

    ;###### Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition SECTION START ####### ...
    ;###### Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition SECTION END #######


  3. Using NWAdmin or ConsoleOne, remove the following section of the logon script, if it is present:

    ;###### Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition SECTION START ####### ...
    ;###### Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition SECTION END #######


  4. Using NWAdmin or ConsoleOne, remove the SYMANTECANTIVIRUSUSER and the SYMANTECANTIVIRUSADMIN groups.
  5. Using NWAdmin or ConsoleOne, remove the NORTONANTIVIRUSUSER and the NORTONANTIVIRUSADMIN groups, if necessary.
    These groups may be present on a computer where you installed Symantec AntiVirus over a previous version.
  6. Delete the following folders:
    • SYS:\SAV
    • SYS:\LOGIN\NAV
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\VPREG
  7. Delete the following files:
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\AMS2DBP.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\AMSLIB.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\BCSTHNDL.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\IAO.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\IAOBIND.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\IAOIDS.DAT
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\IAOLOG.DAT
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\MSGSYS.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\NLMXHNDL.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\PDS.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\SNMPHNDL.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\VPREG.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\VPREGEDT.NLM
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\VPREMOVE.NCF
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\VPSTART.NCF
    • SYS:\SYSTEM\VPSTART.NLM
