Question/Issue:
You install Symantec Client Firewall to Windows XP Service Pack 2 clients. You want to know how to configure Windows Security Center (WSC) firewall alerts.


Solution:
WSC firewall alerts can be configured using Symantec Client Firewall Administrator. This functionality is available in the following program versions:

• Symantec Client Firewall 7.1.1 MR2 or later
• Symantec Client Firewall 5.0.1 MR9 or later
• Symantec Client Firewall 5.1.1 MR6 or later

1. In the Symantec Client Firewall Administrator window, on the File menu, click Open.
2. Click the policy file for which you want to configure an alert setting.
3. On the Client Settings tab, under Global, next to Windows Security Center Firewall Alert, select one of the following:
   • No action
     WSC alerts are not affected by this policy.
   • Disable WSC
     Security alerts are not displayed on the system tray
   • Enable WSC
     Security alerts are not displayed on the system tray
   • Keep Existing Selection: Do Not Change
     WSC uses the existing setting for displaying firewall alerts. (This is effectively the same as No action.)
4. On the File menu, click Save.
5. In the File Save Data Selection dialog box, click OK.
6. Use the Symantec System Center to update clients with the modified policy.
7. Restart the clients so that the changes take effect.

Technical Information:
When a Symantec product is uninstalled, WSC returns to the state before the Symantec product installation. For example, if WSC firewall alerts were enabled before the Symantec product installation, the alerts are re-enabled after the Symantec product uninstallation.
