Configuring Windows Security Center antivirus alerts after installing Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition or Symantec Client Security

Question/Issue:
You have installed Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition or Symantec Client Security to Windows® XP Service Pack 2 clients. You want to know how to configure Windows Security Center (WSC) antivirus alerts.


Solution:
WSC antivirus alerts may be configured after installation in the Symantec System Center. This functionality is available in the following program versions:


To configure WSC antivirus alerts in the Symantec System Center
  1. In the Symantec System Center console, in the left pane, expand Symantec System Center > System Hierarchy.
  2. In the left pane, right-click the server group (the server group must be unlocked), and then click All Tasks > Symantec Antivirus > Client Administrator Only Options.
  3. If the prompt for Symantec AntiVirus Management Snap-In appears, click Yes.
  4. In the Client Administrator Only Options dialog box, under Windows Security Center, in the Windows Security Center Antivirus Alerts drop-down list, select one of the following:
    • Disable
      WSC does not display antivirus alerts on the system tray.
    • Enable
      WSC displays antivirus alerts on the system tray.
    • No action
      WSC uses the existing setting for displaying antivirus alerts
  5. Click OK.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 to configure alerting for additional server groups.
  7. Restart the clients in each server group so that the changes take effect.




Technical Information:
When a Symantec product is uninstalled, WSC returns to the state before the Symantec product installation. For example, if WSC antivirus alerts were enabled before the Symantec product installation, the alerts are re-enabled after the Symantec product uninstallation.
