Configuring Windows Security Center alerts during installation of Symantec AntiVirus 9.0 or Symantec Client Security 2.0 MR2 or later

Question/Issue:
You want to know how you can configure Windows Security Center (WSC) alerts during the installation of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.0.2 or Symantec Client Security 2.0.2.

Solution:
An installation of Symantec AntiVirus or Symantec Client Security can automatically configure WSC to enable or disable alerting by using new command line properties. The following table describes these properties.

PropertyBehaviorSettings
WSCAVALERT=Configures antivirus alerts for WSC1: Disable (default)
0: Enable
WSCFWALERT=Configures firewall alerts for WSC1: Disable (default)
0: Enable

Note: If you change the WSCAVALERT property, the AntiVirusDisableNotify Microsoft registry key is changed accordingly. If you change the WSCFWALERT property, the FirewallDisableNotify Microsoft registry key is changed accordingly.

If you are installing Symantec AntiVirus 9.0 or Symantec Client Security 2.0 (which includes Symantec AntiVirus 9.0 and Symantec Client Firewall 7.1), alerts may be configured during installation using new properties for the Windows installer. The WSCAVALERT property may be configured for both Symantec AntiVirus and Symantec Client Security products; the WSCFWALERT may be configured for Symantec Client Security products.

The following sample command line installs Symantec AntiVirus 9.0 MR2 or later with the option to enable antivirus alerts:

msiexec /i "Symantec AntiVirus.msi" WSCAVALERT=0

The following example enables both antivirus and firewall alerts during the installation of Symantec Client Security 2.0 MR2 or later:

msiexec /i "Symantec Client Security.msi" WSCAVALERT=0 WSCFWALERT=0

Technical Information:
When a Symantec product is uninstalled, WSC returns to its previous state; that is, the state before the Symantec product installation. For example, if WSC antivirus alerts were enabled before the Symantec product installation, the alerts are re-enabled after the Symantec product uninstallation.
