Manually uninstalling the Symantec Quarantine Console for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.x

Question/Issue:
Using Add or Remove Programs has failed, and you need to know how to manually uninstall Symantec Quarantine Console from a computer running Windows NT/2000/XP/2003.


Solution:
This document describes how to manually remove Symantec Quarantine Console from the following three places:



Note: If Symantec Central Quarantine and Symantec Quarantine Console are installed on same machine, you must uninstall both. When you uninstall Symantec Quarantine Console only, Symantec Central Quarantine will not function properly.


To stop the Quarantine Console services
You must stop the following services before removing items from the registry, Start menu, or hard drive:
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  2. In the Run Dialog box type:

    services.msc
  3. Click OK.
  4. Right-click the Intel Alert Handler service, and click Stop.
  5. Perform step 4 for each of the services listed above.

To remove the Quarantine Console keys from the registry
You must have administrator permissions (read and write) to edit the registry.

WARNING: We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before you make any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify only the keys that are specified. Read the document How to back up the Windows registry for instructions.
  1. Exit all open programs.
  2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
  3. In the Run dialog box, type the following:

    regedit
  4. Click OK.
  5. In Registry Editor, go to the following key:

     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Qurantine
  6. Delete the Console folder.
  7. Go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus
  8. Delete the Qsconsole folder.
  9. Go to the following key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
  10. Delete the following entries:
    • AvisConAbout.1
    • AvisConsole.AvisCon
    • AvisConsole.AvisCon.1
    • Qscon.QSConsole
    • Qscon.QSConsole.1
    • QSConsoleAbout.1
  11. Go to the following key in the left pane:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID
  12. Delete the following entries:
    • {26140C85-B554-11D2-8F45-3078302C2030}
    • {26140C86-B554-11D2-8F45-3078302C2030}
    • {6A0B6708-FE02-11D2-9798-00C04F688464}
    • {F7BFE116-B480-11D2-B65E-0020AFEED321}
  13. Go to the following key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib
  14. Delete the following entries:
    • {26140C78-B554-11D2-8F45-3078302C2030}
    • {6A0B66FA-FE02-11D2-9798-00C04F688464}
  15. In the left pane, select My Computer.
  16. On the Edit menu, click Find.
  17. Search for the following:

    63264A68B44C7124189EB696C1281EDD
  18. Delete all entries that are found.
  19. If other Symantec applications that use virus definitions are installed on the computer go to step 21. Otherwise, go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec key
  20. Delete the SharedDefs entry.
  21. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\InstalledApps
  22. Delete the following entry:

    QConsole
  23. In the left pane, go to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
  24. Delete the following key:

    {86A46236-C44B-4217-81E9-6B691C82E1DD}
  25. In the left pane, select My Computer.
  26. On the Edit menu, click Find.
  27. Search for the following keys, and then delete all entries that are found:
    • {86A46236-C44B-4217-81E9-6B691C82E1DD}
    • {0A624A66-269C-11d3-80F4-00C04F68D969}
    • {26140C87-B554-11D2-8F45-3078302C2030}
    • {6A0B6707-FE02-11D2-9798-00C04F688464}
  28. Go to the following key in the left pane:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Miscrosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders
  29. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows NT4 SP 6, delete the following entries:
      • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Symantec Quarantine Console
      • C:\Program Files\Symantec\Quarantine\Console\Ams2
      • C:\Program Files\Symantec\Quarantine\Console\Ams2\Winnt
    • In Windows 2000/XP/2003, delete the following entries:
      • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Symantec Quarantine Console
      • C:\Program Files\Symantec\Quarantine\Console\Ams2
      • C:\Program Files\Symantec\Quarantine\Console\Ams2\Winnt
  30. Restart the computer

Symantec Quarantine Console is now disabled, even though traces of it remain in the registry. These traces have little impact on how your computer operates. It is not necessary to remove them.

To remove Symantec Quarantine Console from the Start menu
  1. On the Windows taskbar, right-click Start, and then click Open All Users.
  2. Double-click Programs.
  3. Right-click the Symantec Quarantine Console folder, and then click Delete

To remove Symantec Quarantine Console from the hard drive
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.
  2. Go to the Program Files\Symantec\Quarantine folder.
  3. Delete the Console folder.

Symantec Quarantine Console is now removed from your computer.
