A client appears to be checking in with another client instead of its server

Question/Issue:
A Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition (Symantec AV) client's AddressCache indicates that it is communicating with another client, rather than with the server it was originally assigned to.

Solution:
The likely cause of this behavior is that the Symantec AV server is using DHCP, or its static IP address has changed and its old IP address has been assigned to another client. It is recommended that Symantec AV servers use a static IP address. If you need to replace a Symantec AV server computer, it is recommended that the new computer use the same computer name and IP address of the former Symantec AV server.

If the Symantec AV server's IP address changes and that IP is made available to another computer which is running a Symantec AV client, the client will continue to send Symantec AV PONG packets to the IP address of what is now a Symantec AV client. The Symantec AV client will respond to the PONG packet. This PONG packet reply will prevent the Symantec AV client from communicating with its Symantec AV server.

If you retire the old Symantec AV server's IP address by removing it from the DHCP address pool, the Symantec AV client will do a NetBIOS name lookup and may find the new IP address of the Symantec AV server. If the Symantec AV client is not able to resolve the NetBIOS computer name, then you will need to copy the server's Grc.dat file to the client.
