Mapped network drives are disabled or disappear after installing Symantec AntiVirus 10.x or Symantec Client Security 3.x

Situation:You install or migrate to Symantec AntiVirus 10.x or Symantec Client Security 3.x. In Windows Explorer, you notice that some mapped network drives are disabled or disappear.

Solution:

Before you begin: If you use Symantec Client Security and the problem goes away after you disable Symantec Client Firewall, first read the following document:
Cannot connect to file or printer shares after installing Symantec Client Firewall 8.x.



This problem is related to the Quick Scan that runs when the computer starts and when virus definitions are updated. To fix the problem, do the following:
  • Disable the Quick Scan that runs when the computer starts.
    In Symantec AntiVirus 10.0.1 and Symantec Client Security 3.0.1 and later, you can disable this Quick Scan in Symantec System Center.
  • Disable the Quick Scan that runs after virus definitions are updated.
