"Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition File System RealTime Protection is Disabled" appears above the Systray at startup

Question/Issue:
After Windows starts, a message that reads "Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition File System RealTime Protection is Disabled" appears above the Windows Systray.

Solution:
This message appears when the Symantec AntiVirus client service (Rtvscan.exe on Windows NT/2000/XP or Rtvscn95.exe on Windows 98/Me) fails to load.

There is no single cause for this message. It may indicate that a serious problem has prevented Symantec AntiVirus client from loading properly. One possible problem may be corrupt virus definition files. For troubleshooting steps, read the article How to determine if Virus Definitions used by Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.0 are corrupted.
