Windows Application Event Log Contains Error Message: "Could not connect to server scsb.msg.yahoo.com (resolved to: 66.163.181.122) port 5050 to initiate Yahoo connection. Error code: 0x0000274d."
Question/Issue:
In the Windows Application Event Log the following error message appears from the IMLinkage source:
Could not connect to server scsb.msg.yahoo.com (resolved to: 66.163.181.122) port 5050 to initiate Yahoo connection. Error code: 0x0000274d.
The hostname listed in the error message may be different.
Symptoms:
IM users may not be able to log into an IM client when this occurs.
Conditions:
- Yahoo protocol is being used.
- The hostname reported in the error message is configured in the IM Manager MMC Snap In for Yahoo.
1. Open the IM Manager MMC Snap in from the Start menu or the server desktop.
2. Right click on IM Manager. Select Properties...
3. Click on the Yahoo Agent tab.
4. The hostname is listed in the Yahoo Server Name/IP Address textbox.
- Telnet to hostname on Yahoo port 5050 does not connect.
1. Open a command prompt.
2. Attempt to open a socket connection to Yahoo on port 5050 using the following command:
telnet <replaceyahoohostname> 5050
The connection does not succeed.
Cause:
Yahoo is not using that hostname for IM traffic.
Solution:
The following are the current set of Yahoo hostnames accepting IM traffic:
scs.msg.yahoo.com
scsa.msg.yahoo.com
scsb.msg.yahoo.com
scsc.msg.yahoo.com
scsd.msg.yahoo.com
scse.msg.yahoo.com
scsf.msg.yahoo.com
scsg.msg.yahoo.com
scsh.msg.yahoo.com
mcs.msg.yahoo.com
Configure IM Manager to contact Yahoo on these hostnames:
1. Open the IM Manager MMC Snap in from the Start menu or the server desktop.
2. Right click on IM Manager. Select Properties...
3. Click on the Yahoo Agent tab.
4. Enter scs.msg.yahoo.com;scsa.msg.yahoo.com;scsb.msg.yahoo.com;scsc.msg.yahoo.com;scsd.msg.yahoo.com;scse.msg.yahoo.com;scsf.msg.yahoo.com;scsg.msg.yahoo.com;scsh.msg.yahoo.com;mcs.msg.yahoo.com
in the Yahoo Server Name/IP Address textbox.
5. Click OK.
6. Restart the Windows Service IMLogRelayService.
NOTE: This causes any IM clients connected to IM Manager to log off and reconnect.
