Question/Issue:
The antispam engine does not detect spam when the sending server uses authenticated SMTP. An installation Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange is set up on the server.


Solution:
Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange is working as designed. You can edit the registry and force the antispam engine to scan all SMTP sessions, including authenticated sessions.

To edit the registry

1. Exit all open programs.
2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
3. In the Open box, type the following text:
   
   regedit
   
   
4. Click OK.
5. In the Registry Editor, create the following key:
   
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\SMSMSE\<version number>\Server\Components\SMTP
   
   (Where <version number> indicates either 4.5, 4.6, 5.0, or 6.0, the first two digits in your installed program version.)
6. In the right pane, right-click the blank area, and then click New > DWORD Value.
7. Give the value the following name:
   
   DoAntiSpamOnAuthSessionsBool
   
   
8. In right pane, right-click DoAntiSpamOnAuthSessionsBool, and then click Modify.
9. In Value Data, type 1
10. Exit the Registry Editor.
11. Restart the Symantec Mail Security Exchange service.
