Backing up and restoring your Symantec Gateway Security 300 Series configuration
Question/Issue:
This document describes the process of backing up and restoring your configuration for your Symantec™ Gateway Security 300 Series appliance. You can back up your appliance configuration at any time. You should back up your configuration after you initially configure the appliance, before changing the configuration, and after changing and testing the settings.
Solution:
The backup file is created in the folder on your hard drive where you put the symcftpw application. In the symcftpw application, you can specify a location to store the backup file, such as a floppy disk. This is useful for storing the configuration in a safe location, such as a off-site, fire-safe box. Backing up your configuration is good practice to ensure that you can restore the configuration should the appliance fail.
Note: The following instructions assume that you use the included Symantec TFTP client for windows. However, any standard TFTP client (using binary mode) should work, making this process platform-independent. Symantec Technical Support may not be able to assist you when using other TFTP clients to do this procedure.
To back up an appliance configuration
- Turn off the power by pressing the power button on the back panel of the appliance.
- Turn DIP switches 1 and 2 to the on (up) position.

- Click Get.
- When the file download is complete, turn off the power.
