Installing Symantec Mail Security 4.x for Microsoft Exchange on an Exchange 2003/2000 cluster

Question/Issue:
This page describes how to install Symantec Mail Security 4.x for Microsoft® Exchange on Exchange 2003/2000 cluster. The cluster consists of at least two nodes in an active/passive or active/active configuration.

Solution:
Before installing the Symantec Mail Security product on an Exchange 2003/2000 cluster ensure that the following requirements are met:

The cluster is a group of compatible servers containing at least two nodes.
At least one Exchange virtual server exists and is capable of running on any node in the cluster.
Make sure you are running Symantec Mail Security 4.5.4 for Microsoft Exchange or newer. If you are running an earlier version of the product please contact Symantec Technical Support to obtain the latest build.

To install the Symantec Mail Security product

Log on to a node, using an Administrator account that is a member of the Domain and Local Admin groups.
Run setup.exe to Install the Symantec Mail Security product on the cluster node.
The installation directory should be on a local node (non-shared drive).
In the server user interface, type the IP address of the externally accessible network card of the current node (if not already present).
Do not type the Virtual Server IP address or the cluster IP address. Do not type the name of the node.
Install the Symantec Mail Security product on the remaining nodes (repeating step 2).

To manage the Symantec Mail Security product on all cluster nodes

Install the Multi-Server MMC Console to one of the clusters servers or a workstation on the same network.
Add each cluster node to a group within the console.
A node must be active to add to the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange console group.
