Situation:
You need to know how to register and license your Symantec Client Security 2.x Business Pack or Symantec Client Security 3.x Business Pack in a unmanaged environment.

Solution:
Follow these instructions to obtain and install a license file.

To obtain a license file

1. Find the serial number that came in the box with your purchase.
   The serial number starts with a letter, followed by 10 numbers (for example: F1234567890).
2. To request a permanent license file, register your serial number online at the Symantec Licensing and Registration site.
   Symantec will send a license file to the email address that you gave when you registered.
3. Find the license file in the email message that you received.
4. Copy the license file from the email message, and note where you saved it.
5. Using a decompression tool, decompress the .zip attachment.
   You will have a license file ending in .slf.

Note: Symantec's licensing tool compresses or "zips" license files to make them smaller and quicker to download. These "zipped" files are not self-extracting and require third-party software such as WinZip or PKZip to open. Install a license file
To install a license file to unmanaged clients, where the Symantec System Center is not used, the content license file is installed from the client itself. The same content license file is installed on unmanaged clients up to the number of licensed seats that are contained in the license file.

To install a license file

1. Install the software.
2. Go to the license panel from the program interface.
   
   
   
3. Click Install License to bring up the License Install Wizard.
   
   
   
   
4. Click Browse to locate the license file that you previously copied from the email message.
   
   
   
   
5. Confirm that the license information is correct.
6. Click Next to install the license.
