Message: "An encrypted email connection has been detected . . . " while sending or receiving email after installing Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.x or later

Question/Issue:
When you send email, you see the message "An encrypted email connection has been detected. Please see help for more information on how to send encrypted mail."

Solution:
This message happens when your Internet service provider (ISP) or internal email server uses the Secured Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition email scanning does not scan email that is sent over the SSL protocol.

To avoid this message in the future, disable or uninstall the email scanning component in Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition. To learn how to uninstall the email scanning component, read the document Uninstalling the Internet Email Tools components of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition. Auto-Protect still scans every incoming file as it is written to your hard drive.
